Water is an important resource for Lindt & Sprüngli. We use it as a fluid for heat exchange throughout the process, for the washing of molds, hygienic requirements such as hand washing, and for sanitary facilities. We continuously monitor and analyze the use of water and the output of wastewater in the production process. The company's goal is to continue reducing the water consumption per ton produced by an average of 2 % over the coming years.
For cooling, we eliminated almost all open systems and went to closed loop systems. In order to further reduce water consumption, Lindt & Sprüngli Germany installed a new and more efficient equipment washing machine. Many plants revised and optimized cold and hot water circuits.
In recent years, Lindt & Sprüngli production companies reduced their water consumption significantly. From 2008 until 2015 Lindt & Sprüngli reduced water consumption by 46% per ton of chocolate produced.
